EBAY/PAYPAL HATE

After the article (above) ran on Yahoo News, hundreds of readers blasted it. Many suggested that Yahoo was paid to display it, and that it was actually written by someone representing eBay. The goal of the article: to get people to continue buying and selling on eBay so eBay and PayPal can continue pocketing more exorbitant fees.

EBay and PayPal are organized crime as far as I'm concerned. I was a Top Rated seller on EBay since 2004 with 100% positive feedback. Then I found and listed some popular products and had over $40,000 in sales in less than a week. What did EBay and PayPal do? They suspended my account because of the increase in sale volume. PayPal froze the funds and I ended up having to refund money to all of my buyers. Then to add insult to injury, EBay refuses to allow me to cancel the transactions so they are trying to nail me for over $2,000 in final value fees for sales that never went through. They have been sued so many time for such nonsense including several class actions but they just keep on doing what they do. Anyone who thinks they can succeed and make a living on EBay is living in fantasy land...as soon as you start doing well, they find ways of shutting you down for no reason. ~Steven, San Mateo, CA

If you think you can really make money on Ebay just google Ebay complaints.~no name

Ebay is a horrible marketplace now. They used to charge 2.5 to 4.5 percent in fees on the final sale price but within the past couple of months they upped their fees to 9.5 to 12.5 percent! It's ridiculous now. I recently sold a complete set of Marvel Legends action figures on eBay for $175 + $45 for shipping to Mexico (USPS also just got much more expensive) and I was hit with a $9.27 Paypal fee along with a $21 eBay fee. After paying paying $127 for the figures and eBay's fees I will make $17.73. Oh and by the way, the seller has almost no rights on eBay anymore.~Michael

The biggest problem with selling on ebay is a sale gone wrong. I sold a like new tv on there that was either damaged in shipping or by the buyer. The buyer voided the original warranty by trying to "work" on the tv. Ebay made me refund the original price, shipping, and return shipping. On top of that, they wouldn't refund my ebay or paypal fees. Ended up losing $85 on a tv i sold for $200, that was only 5 months old and $400 new. I'm done with ebay... ~Herc

Ebay is like a metaphor for our big government. Spending too much, taxing too much. The sellers are like the citizens. And lo and behold, the media does the hyping... ~Kontol

Watch out for the new 1099-K. For those of you who haven't been paying their federal and state income taxes, PayPal now sends an IRS form 1099-K to the eBay seller and a copy to the IRS. So, after your 10,000 profit, you will have to pay $12,000 in taxes on your $24,000, unless you keep all of your receipts and documentation. Also, you can deduct transportation costs, and the portion of your house cost used for your business. Go to irs.gov and find out what you need for your eBay business. Don't wait until tax time; start saving all of the documentation as soon as possible.~Stewart G.

F eBay, a.k.a. FeeBay. There are other places to sell.~Chuck

Whatever you do don't ever sell on E-bay. The buyer protection that ebay offers is abused 24/7 by a large majority of buyers. What they will do is take pictures of a "damaged shipping box" which they obviously damaged, then find pictures of a broken item online and send it to e-bay. E-bay automatically agrees with the seller, thus forcing you to give back the money you got for the item... and not requiring the sender to send the item back! You then have to appeal it, and it'll get denied... and then have to call them at the 1-800 number in which the guy gives you your money back but allows the customer to keep theirs! It's a huge waste of time and ebay is going down hill with this new system.~Jon, Seattle, WA

Sold a brand new item on ebay a while back. The buyer complained that it wasn't new (it still had the original tags on it). When I wouldn't give him his money back and the shipping he paid and the shipping charges to send it back to me he left me a negative feedback. He also filed a dispute with ebay. When I contacted ebay they said the buyer has the right to leave negative feedback if they want to. ebay also gave his money back to him and let him keep the item. As a seller I would stay away from ebay. ~Joel, Kansas City, MO

I use to work for a company that sold on eBay. Ebay will do everything they can to maximize their end on your item with various fees, including taking a cut of shipping prices. They end up taking around 15% without doing anything for you. Also, they will side will the buyer every single time no matter how much of a scam the buyer is trying to pull. Its a joke. ~B.C., Burbank

THE DEAD BIRD

SATAN SAYS

SIMCHA JACOBOVICI: RELIGIOUS PROFITEER

A Critique of Simcha Jacobovici’s Secrets of Christianity: Nails of the Cross here.

Simcha Jacobovici’s claim of the discovery of the “Lost Nails of the Crucifixion” is speculation wrapped in hearsay couched in conspiracy masquerading as science ensconced in sensationalism slathered with misinformation and topped with a colorful hat.
Simcha Jacobovici did not find the nails of the cross of Jesus. The show was produced and aired during Easter week to prey on the hopes and beliefs of the faithful in anticipation of making lots of money for Simcha Jacobovici and the History Channel.

Doubts About the "Jesus Discovery" here.

Jodi Magness, a religious-studies professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, said "it pains me to see archaeology hijacked in the service of non-scientific interests, whether they are religious, financial, or other." In her view, Tabor, Jacobovici and their colleagues set out to dig up evidence to support their earlier claims about a different tomb nearby, the so-called "Jesus Family Tomb" — and then rustle up a fresh round of media attention.
"Professional archaeologists do not search for objects or treasures such as Noah's Ark, the Ark of the Covenant, or the Holy Grail," she wrote. "Usually these sorts of expeditions are led by amateurs (nonspecialists) or academics who are not archaeologists. Archaeology is a scientific process."

FIGHT

BABY RED BIRD KILLERS

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before... but some possums (for THREE YEARS straight!!) ate all the baby cardinals who were in a nest outside one of my windows. I finally removed the bush that mama and papa red bird kept returning to every year because I couldn't stand seeing all their hard work (nest-building, egg care, hatchling care, etc) end up in some possum's stomach. All creatures have their place, I guess, but I have a thing against baby red bird killers.
